FAQs
What does a non return valve do?
It lets wastewater flow one way only. The flap opens with the flow and closes against it, so water from a surcharged sewer cannot come back up the pipe into the building.
Where is a non return valve fitted?
In line on the 110mm underground pipe between the last inspection chamber and the sewer, in a chamber so the flap can be inspected and cleaned.
Does a non return valve need maintenance?
The flap should be checked and cleared of debris at least once a year, which is why the valve is fitted where it can be reached.
