Lintels
Lintel Sizes, Spans and Load Ratings
Castings Drainage has lintels for sale from Naylor and IG, for openings in cavity, solid and internal walls.
A lintel carries the load above a door or window across the opening and into the masonry either side, preventing cracking and settlement in the brickwork above. The range takes in Naylor concrete lintels in 100mm and 140mm widths and IG galvanised steel lintels for 90 to 105mm and 150 to 165mm cavities, in lengths from 600mm to 4800mm.

The IG Box 100 covers standard load brickwork and blockwork openings, and the IG L10 is a single leaf lintel for supporting the outer leaf of a cavity wall, available without a top bend where the build needs it.
Choosing Between Steel and Concrete Lintels
For a cavity wall, use an IG L1 lintel matched to the cavity width. The L1/S range covers standard loads and the L1/HD range takes heavier loads across the same two cavity widths. Where only the outer leaf needs support, the L10 does that job on its own.
For a solid wall, an internal opening or an inner leaf, choose a Naylor concrete lintel or an IG Box lintel. Concrete suits plastered internal openings and foundation work. Steel is lighter to handle and faster to bed on site over the same span.
Match the load rather than the size. At 100 x 215mm the ER7 carries up to 64.47kN/m at 700mm clear span, while the 100 x 100mm S4 carries 15.77kN/m over the same span.
Applications
Window and door openings in new build housing, domestic extensions, internal partitions and foundation work. The Economy Range suits standard housing openings, while the High Spec and IG heavy duty ranges are specified where spans are longer or loads are higher.
